"Arrivals have increased not only in Guntur (AP) but also in Madhya Pradesh where it was put at 30,000-40,000 bags (of 45 kg). Spot prices were down Rs 800 per quintal to Rs 5,000," said a trader.
Turmeric slips
Turmeric futures closed a tad down at Rs 2,055 per quintal. Pepper futures were volatile touching the day's high of Rs 12,784 per quintal, dropping to a low of Rs 12,530 before closing at Rs 12,648, a gain of 0.84 per cent over Tuesday. Cardamom for March delivery gained 3.57 per cent to Rs 510 per kg on NCDEX as investors were seen shifting from February contract, which will become compulsory delivery soon. Sugar futures were down 0.38 per cent at Rs 1,560 per quintal as Government revised the output estimates to 315.5 million tonnes against earlier estimate of 281.2 mt, an increase of 12 per cent. "The monthly Government release quota of 14 lakh tonnes with a carry forward quota of 2 lakh tonnes softened Muzaffarnagar prices by Rs 30 per quintal to Rs 1,600," said an investor. NCDEX registered a turnover of Rs 2,340 crore (Rs 2,424 crore, up to 11 p.m.) up to 5 pm on 81,450 (83,330) trades while on MCX it was Rs 2,273 crore (Rs 8,711 crore, up to 11 p.m.) on 50,033 (1,57,953) trades.
