Puducherry Feb. 7 The Puducherry Government, which has plans to implement its information technology policy will soon form a standing committee on e-governance in the Union Territory, according to Mr M.O.H.F. Shahjahan, Minister for Education and IT, Puducherry.

The Government launched an electronic tendering system on Monday.

It also plans to establish 1,000 `citizen information centres.' To be developed on the lines of existing `e-Sewa' centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore, the centres will provide facilities to pay all government bills and provide public information.

Mr Shahjahan told Business Line that many IT hardware and software companies, particularly from France, have shown interest in setting up offices here. "BPOs servicing French companies also want to set up offices here." But limited availability of land makes it difficult to allot space for everyone, he said.
