Bio-tech & Genetics States - Kerala Cabinet nod for handover of Rajiv Gandhi biotech centre Our Bureau
The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, told newspersons after a Cabinet meet on Wednesday that the assets of RGCB was worth around Rs 50 crore and the Government had asked the Centre to give due representation to it in the new set-up. The Cabinet also decided to increase the price of milk sold by the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Milma) by Rs 1 to Rs 16 a litre. The Chief Minister said that 75 per cent of the increased price would be passed on to the dairy farmers.
Stringent Measures
He said that the Cabinet had discussed in detail the price levels of the essential commodities in the State and resolved to continue with stringent measures to control the rise in the prices. Government agencies such as the Civil Supplies Corporation, Consumer Federation and the Horticulture Department would intervene in the open market to stabilise the prices, he said. The Chief Minister noted that the Centre's recent decision to cut the quotas of sugar, wheat and kerosene to the State had affected the price situation. So, the Government had asked the Centre to restore the quotas to the previous level. The Cabinet decided to sanction an amount of Rs 5 crore to the district collectors for taking precautionary steps to maintain drinking water supply in view of the impending drought situation in the State.
