A known case of heart disease, Mr Reddy had a history of multiple blocks in different parts his body, which were treated at the same hospital. According to Dr P. Rajendra Kumar Jain, Cardiologist and Director of KIMS, Mr Reddy had come to the hospital with acute abdominal pain and loss of appetite. Doctors could diagnose that he was having a major block in the intestinal artery, after an angiogram and partly because of his clinical history.
Talking to presspersons, he said, "Total occlusion of one of the major arteries of the small intestine (superior mesenteric artery) was detected. It was a 100-per cent block for a duration of more than three months. After this duration it is normally very difficult to open the artery, but we did it and managed to put a stent in the artery."
After a week since the successful procedure Mr Reddy is fine now and is able to have a normal intake, the pain too has subsided, he said.
