Kolkata, Feb. 7

Two separate 33/11 kV sub-stations were inaugurated at Bira-Joypul in Duttapukur and at Rajarhat, both in North 24-Parganas district, on Tuesday. Inaugurating the units, Mr Mrinal Banerjee, Minister for Power, West Bengal, reiterated that from this year there would be no power cuts unless caused by mechanical reasons. By the end of 2007, an additional 1,570 MW would be wheeled from Sagardighi, Bakreswar, Santaldih, and DPL power plants. To sort out the voltage problem, the State Electricity Board is to commission sub-stations of different capacities throughout the State, which would include four new 400 kV sub-stations. The Bira-Joypul 33/11 kV sub-station was inaugurated by Mr Abbdus Sattar, Minister for Minority Development, Welfare and Madrasa Education, according to a press release.
