Poultry Corporate - New Projects Suguna Poultry forays into layer segment Our Bureau
Hatching plans The Lohmann LSL Life breed would give more than 325 eggs (as against an average of 315-320 eggs) in 72 weeks.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr B. Soundarajan, Managing Director of Suguna group, said the association with the German company, a global leader in primary breeding for layers, would help Suguna give good returns to Indian poultry farmers. The Lohmann LSL Life breed would give more than 325 eggs (as against an average of 315-320 eggs) in 72 weeks. "The cost of production per egg would be lower by 3 per cent. The intake of feed too is less. Also, the average time for the hen to give bigger eggs is less, resulting in better returns for farmers," he said. The layer chicks would be on sale to farmers from March 1 in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Suguna, which clocked a turnover of Rs 1,100 crore last year, was looking at Rs 1,400 crore during the current financial year. "We hope to cross the Rs 2,000-crore mark in the next financial year," he said. The company proposed to invest Rs 50 crore in the next three years to set up feed mills and chicken processing. "The Punjab Government has recognised it as a mega project and offered power and sales tax subsidies. It also offered to waive off agricultural cess," he said.
Fast food outlets
Suguna, which recently forayed into the fast food business by opening `Rail Road' brand of chicken restaurants on the lines of KFC, would expand to other cities.
