The Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Ordinance, 2007, has a provision to suspend or revoke a broadcaster's licence or impose a fine of Rs 1 crore, if it refuses to comply. Nimbus, which holds the telecast rights to all Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) matches, had sought legal intervention from the Delhi High Court in its row against the national broadcaster. The private broadcaster is reported to have told the court today that it was yet to receive a copy of the Ordinance. The court is to hear the matter again on Friday. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has constituted a Joint Group of Experts to look into the issues of sports broadcasting signals. It will also look into issues related to free-to-air Direct to Home service of Prasar Bharati. The 12-member group is to be headed by Mr Brijeshwar Singh, Director General, All India Radio. Also on board are Mr Lalit Modi, Vice-President, BCCI, Mr H. Rajshekaran and Mr Digvijay Singh from Nimbus, Mr R.C. Venkateish, MD, ESPN Software (India) Pvt Ltd and Mr Jawahar Goel of Zee Sports. The group is expected to submit its report in about a month's time.
