Mumbai Feb.8 The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved payment of productivity-linked reward to port and dock workers and employees as per the new scheme for 2002-03 till 2009-10. The scheme will be reviewed thereafter and further action will be taken with fresh Cabinet approval, a Government communication said.

The decision is expected to benefit about 66,000 port and dock employees across the country, with the annual outgo being about Rs 40 crore, including ad-hoc payment for 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06.

For 2006-07 onwards till 2009-10, payments will be made as per the new scheme. The expenditure on account of productivity-linked reward payment shall be met by the major port trusts and dock labour boards from their own resources, without any budgetary support from the Government.
