New decoder from HR Smith

A new, hi-tech portable decoder that can be used by Indian Navy, Coast Guard for search and rescue aircrew to save lives in an emergency is on display at the ongoing Aero India 2007 here.

The new Series 12-406-7 decoder from the HR Smith Group, UK, is a cost-effective means of decoding and displaying 406 MHz message data, including the latitude and longitude of location-protocol emergency beacons. On-show for the first time in India, the new equipment is a life-critical improvement on currently available technology as it intercepts GPS signals, sent from an emergency beacon satellites, to locate and rescue survivors in real time.

Mr Barrie Naylor, Business Development Manager at HR Smith, said, "The new decoder is hand portable and can be operated aboard aircraft and marine craft without the need for costly modifications. The decoder's unique, portable design also incorporates a 406 MHz dipole receiving antenna and rechargeable batteries with an operating duration of six hours."
