New Delhi Feb. 9 Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd said it has bagged the US Food and Drug Administration approval to make and sell five strengths of Sertraline Hydrochloride tablets.

In an official statement, the company said that the Office of Generic Drugs, US FDA, had determined its formulation to be bioequivalent to Pfizer's Zoloft, prescribed in the treatment of major depressive and anxiety disorders in adults. The company has approval for 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg, and 200 mg tablets.

"Ranbaxy now offers both solid and liquid dosage forms for this molecule that has established its utility and value in major depressive disorder. This product formulation will be launched immediately," said Mr Jim Meehan, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing of Ranbaxy's Florida based subsidiary.

The total annual market sales for Sertraline Hydrochloride Tablets for 2006 were at $3.07 billion, Ranbaxy said.
