Samsung keeps $100 m for Chennai facilities

Samsung India Electronics Pvt Ltd, which has laid the foundation stone for its manufacturing facility in Chennai, plans an investment of $100 million here till 2011, according to Mr H.B. Lee, Regional President and CEO, Samsung South.
The manufacturing facility is spread over 80 acres at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.
This is the company's second manufacturing unit in the country.
According to a release, the company plans to set up facilities for refrigerators, air-conditioners, washing machines, printers and other technology products apart from colour televisions (CTVs) and colour monitors.
The CTVs and colour monitor facilities are expected to commence production in August 2007 and will have annual production capacities of 1.5 million units and one million units respectively.
The company also plans to manufacture LCD TVs and LCD monitors at this facility.
The facility would enable the company to respond faster to the requirements of customers in the South and for exports to SAARC markets, Mr Lee said.
