Kochi Feb 9 Mr John McCarthy, Australian High Commissioner to India, visited the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cochin on Friday and held discussions with the constituents of the Chamber.

Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner said that Kerala is a very important business destination for Australia and that the country would be enhancing activities in facilitating business opportunities in the State significantly.

He said there are opportunities in food, education, infrastructure and construction and tourism sectors.

OPPORTUNITIES

Specific opportunities include importing Australia's food, beverage and horticultural products and offering Australian technology and expertise in food processing, packaging, seafood, quality and certification in Kerala.

He added that Australian expertise could be offered in infrastructure projects in areas like design, project management and construction, as well as in ecological conservation for balanced development of the tourism sector in the State.

The Chamber President, Mr K. Retnan, said that the Kerala Government is in the process of announcing a well-knit industrial and IT policy as part of the making the State investor-friendly.

The Chamber Vice- President, Mr R. Mohandas, also spoke on the occasion.
