Kolkata Feb 9 The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, has asked the Director of Industries and the District Magistrate of Hooghly to discuss issues of concern with landowners in Singur who are yet to accept compensation cheques following acquisition of their farmlands for the Tata small car project.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr Bhattacharjee said that some landowners/farmers in Singur were yet to accept their compensation cheques.

If they had any issues to discuss, they are free to do so with the Director of Industries and the District Magistrate.

Mr Bhattacharjee reiterated his willingness to discuss matters pertaining to investment and land acquisition with all stakeholders.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister had written a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Mr Partha Chatterjee, requesting the latter to meet him on February 13 to discuss issues such as land acquisition in Singur.

Mr Chatterjee has, however, rejected the offer stating that talks could only be held when the process of acquisition of farmland for the Tata small car project is halted.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Ms Mamata Banerjee, is scheduled to address a rally tomorrow at Singur, where prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed. The Home Secretary, Mr Prasad Ranjan Roy, has said that no one would be allowed to defy the ban.

If required, the imposition of Section 144 may be extended beyond February 14, when it ceases to remain in effect.

Meanwhile, the venue of the Chief Minister's public meeting that was supposed to be held in Singur on February 15 has been shifted to nearby Haripal, outside the area of prohibitory orders.
