Consensus on IP transfer

New Delhi, Feb. 9In what could be a landmark decision for enabling technological advancement in developing countries, major nations have agreed to facilitate transfer of intellectual property to the developing world. At the three-day International Meeting on Intellectual Property that concluded here on Wednesday, it was decided to approach the matter in the context of larger societal interest and development-related concerns, in accordance with the TRIPS Agreement. Consensus was also reached for fostering of transfer of technology to the small and medium enterprises and devise innovative ways to take better advantage of the flexibilities as provided by relevant international agreements. Participants from 22 countries also favoured carrying forward the development agenda. The participants were also of the view that technical cooperation programme of the World Intellectual Property Organisation should be strengthened. The meeting was organised by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion in association with FICCI and National Intellectual Property Organisation.
