New Delhi Feb. 9 The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, said that the country would like to see early commencement of negotiations for the Agreement on Trade and Investment between India and the European Union.

Mr Nath noted that India's trade with Greece increased by 84 per cent to reach $620.46 million in 2005-06However, this was way below the potential, both the Ministers said, while underlining the desire to develop bilateral trade and economic ties especially in view of close and friendly relations between the two countries as ancient civilisations and modern democracies. While noting that India's exports to Greece have diversified beyond traditional commodity items to include machinery, automobiles and engineering goods, Mr Nath said that auto components, pharmaceuticals, health sector including medical tourism, agriculture and food processing are the other potential areas of growth.
