Letters Budget and poor
The only thing predictable about the Budget is that it will run into several trillions of rupees with Defence taking the chunk, leaving social services and poverty alleviation far behind. Finance ministers have been presenting the Budget for many decades and there will be people praising it and an equal number disagreeing with it. Support or opposition, the previous Budgets, by and large, have not given any relief to the poor. Will the Finance Minister re-think and prepare the Budget with focus on the people below the poverty line? V. S. Venkatavaradan Salem
