Mumbai Feb. 11 Jewellery companies, retail outlets, and even banks are jumping on to the Valentine's Day bandwagon, either pushing sales or using the opportunity for brand promotion.

The `light' range of diamond jewellery, including inscribed diamonds with special messages, are commonly offered by these companies for Valentine's Day, keeping in mind the affordability factor of the young customer. These light range of diamond jewellery is priced in the range of Rs 3,000-10,000.

HDFC Bank is offering a variant of the gold bar, which weighs 2.5 gm and is heart-shaped.

The bank's credit card holders get a one-per cent cash-back offer on this bar.

Ms Chitra Pandeya, Executive Vice-President & Head - Retail Liabilities, HDFC Bank, said: "The heart-shaped gold bar not only offers a unique opportunity to specially gift loved ones, but also as a good investment avenue on an equally appropriate occasion."

The 2.5-gm heart shaped gold bar is 99.99% pure gold sealed in tamper-proof certicards. It comes with Assay certification, is attractively priced at Rs 2,800. Jewellery brand Ishi's has introduced the L'Amour Collection, a range of lightweight diamond jewellery with designs revolving around the theme of hearts and flowers for the Valentine season.

The collection includes diamond rings, pendants and earrings set in 18K white or yellow gold.

Inscriptions

A diamond inscribed with personal messages such as "I love you" or "Our love will last forever" is offered by the International Gemological Institute (IGI). It is available at the showrooms of Ashwarya Diamond Jewellery, Kundan Jewellers, Maniratna Jewellers, Ghannasingh Signature Jewellery in Mumbai. The country's leading diamond brands such as Adora, ORRA, Arisia, Ishis and Goldstar's Elinor that are exclusively certified by IGI have also begun to offer such products.

"A lot of sales take place on Valentine's Day. "It does mean big business for the jewellery industry," said Mr Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council.
