The Chairman of ISRO, Mr G. Madhavan Nair, briefed him on the country's space programme. Mr Prodi went around the modern ISITE facilities that the space research organisation has established in the campus. One of the main facilities here is a 6.5-metre dia comprehensive assembly, test and thermo vacuum chamber supplied by an Italian company on a turnkey basis. This facility has several features that allow flexibility in terms of spacecraft loading, preferential cooling, an integrated system for creating thermal environment around the spacecraft and an elaborate data acquisition and monitoring system.
Growing Relationship
Mr Prodi's Bangalore itinerary also included an hour-long visit to the Infosys Technologies Ltd campus. Accompanied by a business delegation and the Italian media, he met the company's senior management. As a part of the tour, the Italian Prime Minister was presented with an overview on the Indian IT industry and the company. He was also taken on a campus tour, which included a visit to Infosys' Global Management Centre. Mr Prodi planted a tree at the campus.
