MobME will be based in Kochi, but will have its development centre in Thiruvananthapuram, said Mr Sanjay Vijayakumar, CEO, Torque. A group of non-resident Indians has invested $1 million in the new venture, he added. According to Mr Sony Joy, COO, Torque, the new company is intended to tap the growing opportunities in the market for value-added services and content for mobile phones. MobME will offer a range of mobile applications and services, he added.
Expansion mode
Meanwhile, Torque is in expansion mode. Though it continues to be based at the technology business incubation centre at Technopark, the company plans to open offices in Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai over the next few months, Mr Vijayakumar said. The company is also looking at an international foray and at partnerships with several European companies. Started a little over 18 months ago by a group of engineering students from Thiruvananthapuram, Torque has developed an array of solutions and services in the wireless space. It has developed Campaign Manager, a one-step solution to create, manage and run mobile phone-based promotional campaigns across the country. Another SMS-based product, Fast Blood, is a community service initiative that facilitates blood donation. Several other new products, including MobShare, a Web-based tool that enables mobile users to share pictures, are in the offing, Mr Vijayakumar added.
