Plantations Signs of revival in arecanut market Aravindan
Now sold at Rs 70-72 a kilogram, the demand of the new variety is gradually improving as buying has strengthened in North India. Tender arecanut is also sold for Rs 4,100 a quintal. Arecanut growers are now hopeful, following a report that appeared in a section of the press that Mr Shankar Bhat of Dakshina Karnataka has prepared wine from tender arecanuts. His experiments for the last 20 years have become successful following the finding that tender arecanut is a rich source for quality wine. Mr Bhat intends to float a company for large-scale production of the wine.
