New Delhi Feb. 12 A meeting of the Group of Ministers set up to facilitate the merger of Air India and Indian scheduled for Monday was postponed at the last minute.

Despite the postponement, Government officials maintain that the merger was on track. "The Monday meeting has been postponed by a few days as most of the Ministers of the Group are out of town on campaign and other duties," a senior Government official said.

The GoM is headed by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and includes the Ministers for Finance, Civil Aviation, Tourism, Personnel and Company Affairs.

Sources indicated that there was unlikely to be any major hurdle for the process getting under way as the major Ministries such as Finance, Tourism and Personnel had not expressed any objections to the proposed merger.

The proposed merger that is to be completed in 18-24 months from getting under way will see the creation of a mega carrier having a fleet strength of more than 100 aircraft and a global footprint.
