Spot rubber slips further

Kottayam Feb. 13 Physical rubber prices were dull under the shadow of weak global futures on Tuesday.

According to analysts, lack of solid support from major consuming industries and unfavourable news on excess stocks and imports also had some negative impact over the market.

Sheet rubber slipped further to Rs 97.50 from Rs 98 and Rs 98.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

The remaining grades were almost steady with low volumes.

Futures better

The rubber futures showed a better trend on NMCE. The February contract moved up to Rs 99.90 (98.51), March to Rs 101.30 (100.60), April to Rs 106.17 (105.11) and May to Rs 111 (110.01) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions totalled 3,396 (2,983) tonnes and open interest 13,683 (14,791) tonnes.

The market opened weak but improved till late noon before shedding the gains partially towards close on profit booking.

The March contract for the grade firmed up to Rs 101.55 a kg from Rs 100.86 a kg (186 lots) on MCX.

The March futures for RSS 3 was marginally weak at 284.5 Yen against 285 Yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade improved by 84 paise to Rs 109.91 from Rs 109.07 a kg at Bangkok spot.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 97.50 (98); RSS-5: 95 (95); ungraded: 93 (93); ISNR 20: 93.25 (93.50) and latex 60 per cent: 65.75 (65.75).
