New Projects States - Maharashtra Caparo Engg's Pune facility ready to go on stream Alka Kshirsagar
CEIPL, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Lord Swaraj Paul's Caparo Group of the UK, has made an initial investment of Rs 45 crore in the new plant, and expects to spend a total of Rs 100 crore here over the next year or so. The plant that has a press shop and weld shop, will manufacture stamped components for Tata Motors' passenger and commercial vehicles.
More units
The company already has a unit at Sanaswadi near Pune, and the recently acquired unit of the sheet metal business of International Auto Ltd (IAL) is also located here. It supplies auto components to Tata Motors, Piaggio and Mahindra and Mahindra. With the commissioning of CEIPL's Merkal plant, and their second, long member plant at Pithampur also almost ready for the unveiling, the number of operational units under the Caparo India banner will touch nine. With another nine in the pipeline and due for completion in a year's time, the group's total investment in India will touch Rs 1,000 crore. Revenues from their auto ancillaries business are also pegged at Rs 1,000 crore.
New venture
In addition to acquiring the sheet business of IAL at Pune and Jamshedpur earlier this month, CEIPL announced a venture at Dewas last August and at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu recently to make stampings, aluminium die-castings and forgings as well as setting up of an R & D centre and a tool room.
