Pune Feb. 14 Blue Dart in alliance with DHL announced the introduction of `Import Express,' a one-stop-shop solution that allows imports with one invoice, one currency, one account and one bill.

The integrated air express, courier and package distribution company is also expanding the fleet of its dedicated airline, Blue Dart Aviation, from seven aircraft to eight by the year end to provide in time deliveries from `envelopes to charter loads' to its customers.

More demand

In Pune to enhance its existing warehouse space here, Mr Anil Khanna, Senior Vice-President, western region, Blue Dart Express, said this had been necessitated by the increased demand for inbound and outbound shipments from the city. Blue Dart inaugurated two new warehouses at Wagholi and Aundh, and increased the area of the existing warehouse at Tathawade to 10,000 sq.ft., with an expansion potential of 5,000 sq. ft.

While the Wagholi warehouse will cater to clients from the Ranajangaon industrial estate, the other facilities will take care of clients in the Talegaon industrial belt.

Elaborating on Import Express, Mr Khanna said that it covers pick up, export from origin, express international transportation, destination customs clearance, and delivery to the customer's door. All this at transparent pricing.

Expansion plan

With the western region — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Madhya Pradesh - accounting for 30 per cent of the company's annual revenues, Blue Dart has chalked out a Rs 8-crore expansion plan for the region.

During the 2006 calendar year, Express and Airfreight handled 1,52,600 tonnes of freight from 14,000 locations in India. The company has earmarked Rs 22 crore to expand facilities in India this year.
