L&T achieves milestone in project

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Feb. 14

Larsen & Toubro achieved a critical milestone in the construction of the Second Vivekananda Bridge across the Hooghly River recently when the 254th segment, which is the last closure pre-cast segment, of the 880-metre long main bridge was put in place within the stipulated time schedule, according to company sources.

L&T's construction division, ECC, is the EPC contractor for the bridge and the job involves detailed engineering survey, design and construction of the main bridge, viaducts, ramps and approach roads on both sides of the river. The design partners of this project are Thailand's Parsons & Brinkerhoff, Bangkok, and India's Consulting Engineering Services Pvt Ltd. The commissioning of the main bridge will connect two National Highways NH 2 and NH 6, with another important National Highway — NH 34, linking the northern part of West Bengal and through the north-eastern region.
