Variety - Events
Journalists, really?

It takes all types to make up the "media" crowd in the capital. A colleague recently lost her handbag at a high-level technical conference and in the process divested herself of vital documents such as credit-cards, cheque books, driving licence, etc. The security at the venue was at its wits end, since it could not imagine that the participating senior government officials would resort to pinching handbags. The scrutiny then turned to the media list where participants had signed up. The colleague, who has been in journalism for quite a number of years, was aghast at the media list. Barring an odd familiar name, the rest on the list was of people absolutely unconnected to the media. Event organisers would perhaps do well to scrutinise those who actually comes in as journalists.
