New Delhi Feb. 15 California-based communication solutions provider, Polycom Inc is looking to extend the scope of its global alliance with the networking company, Cisco to cover the Indian market in telepresence solutions.

Telepresence entails virtual interaction experience-based solutions that would facilitate video conferencing across locations.

Polycom had, last month, acquired Destiny's telepresence solution for $47.6 million to strengthen its position in the telepresence segment and now owns several patents in this domain.

"We would like to extend our global alliance with Cisco in the domestic market as well as for providing telepresence solutions," said Mr Yugal Sharma, Country Manager, India and SAARC, Polycom Inc.

Nasdaq-listed Polycom provides personal video systems, conference phones as well as communication products that converge voice, video, data and Web.

Polycom, which began its Indian operations two years back, currently has 75 channel partners and is seeking to expand the number to around 150-200 by the end of this year. "Earlier, we were focussed on the telecom segment and office automation tools. However, we are now looking at IT partners for our networking solutions," said Mr Sharma.

At present, government business comprises about 40-45 per cent of its revenues. In the health category, Polycom has hospitals such as Apollo, AIIMS, Max, Escorts, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Space Hospitals among its clients, and is looking to increase its presence in the telemedicine area. Polycom also operates in the education vertical, with the IITs, the IIMs and several boarding schools among its clients.

The company plans to launch its real presence experience (RPX) solutions, by the second quarter, added Mr Sharma.
