A. Shama Rao Foundation, the promoters of Srinivas Group of Colleges here, organised a lecture on `Problems in research and higher education in India' in Mangalore on February 14 to mark its Founder's Day. Speaking on the occasion, Dr V.N.P. Nampoori, Director of International School of Photonic of Cochin University of Science and Technology, delved upon the gradual decline in R&D in basic sciences and its impact on the future of India. A press release by the foundation said here on Thursday that Dr Nampoori advocated the need for setting up national-level institutions to propagate basic sciences.
