Ahmedabad Feb. 15 A day after the Vodafone CEO, Mr Arun Sarin, said the mobile telephony would be cheaper, Hutch today declared that there would be no monthly rentals for Hutch users in Gujarat for national roaming, even as its current partner Essar said it has no intention of leaving Hutchison Essar.

Now, Hutch users will also not pay any security deposit for national roaming. They will now pay only Rs 1.75 for incoming calls which will save costs between 54 - 56 per cent, depending on the roaming distance.

Outgoing calls

Outgoing local calls will be Rs 1.40 per minute, while STD calls will cost Rs 2.40 per minute. There will be no change in cost for ISD rates and SMS or GPRS usage.

The drop in roaming tariffs is in line with the recent guidelines issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The TRAI said the new tariffs; effective from February 15, would be applicable for the dominant GSM network as well as the CDMA platform and the new charges would cut roaming tariffs by 22 to 56 per cent, Hutch said in a release here.
