Education States - Maharashtra Perth wooing Indian students Our Bureau
In an effort to promote Perth as an education destination, the Perth Education Society and Western Australia Trade Commission are conducting road shows across eight cities in the country. The road show will be covering Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata. Talking to presspersons, Mr Dirk Mulder, Chairman for the South Asia Focus Group, Perth Education City - Western Australia, and Prof Hema Sharda, University of Western Australia, said the University of Western Australia would be signing a memorandum of understanding with the IIT Madras and New Delhi for student and staff exchange programmes. The MoU is expected to be concluded soon. Ms Hema said about 15 students from IITs had been to Perth on a student exchange programme last year and this is expected to go up to 25. She said that for the current academic year, about 10 students from IIT Madras, five from IIT Delhi and ten from IIT Bombay would be taking part. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed with IIT Powai which is expected to be completed by March and is in collaboration with the University of Western Australia, he said while noting that Technical and Further Education, now renamed as International Skill Resource Centre, would be signing the MoU this month with the Mumbai-based K G Somaiya. Mr Mulder said that for the current academic year, about 1000 Indian students have joined various courses in Perth.
