New Delhi Feb. 15 Artemis Health Institute, promoted by Apollo Tyres' Mr Onkar S. Kanwar, on Thursday announced a $7-million technology partnership with Philips Medical Systems as a step in its efforts to become a cutting-edge healthcare player with a pan Indian presence.

Artemis will buy 60 per cent of medical equipment from Philips, while the latter will provide high-end equipment for their R&D collaboration in the area of imaging and monitoring.

"The idea is to make imaging part of predictive and preventive therapy," says Dr Kushagra Katariya, CEO, Artemis Health Sciences whose 500-bed tertiary care hospital will be the first in the country to have the latest imagining technologies from Philips.

Philips in turn is to use the data generated from the research to enhance its equipment. Dr Paul Smit, Senior Vice-President, Philips Medical Systems, said that the partnership was one of only 30 such alliances that the Netherlands-based company had globally, and the only research collaboration with a corporate group-run hospital.

Artemis seeks to deliver cutting-edge technology by unique healthcare delivery with R&D, said Mr Kanwar, Chairman of Apollo Tyres Group. The facility is to be inaugurated in Gurgaon in April this year. Soon after, Artemis hopes to launch its clinical research initiatives.

The company's future plans include primary, secondary and tertiary facilities depending on the location identified.
