Thai award for Kolkata doctor

Thailand's "Prince Mahidol Award 2006", an international award instituted by the Prince Mahidol Foundation of Thailand on January 1, 1992, has been conferred on Dr Dilip Mahalanabis, Honorary Director of the Society for Applied Studies, and a resident of Kolkata, along with three other awardees in the United States. The Foundation, under Royal patronage, was set up in January 1992, to honour the late Prince Mahidol of Songkla, the father of Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand. The award is given annually to individuals or institutions in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of medical, public health and humans services globally. The 2006 award was for contributions in the field of public health, particularly towards the discovery and implementation of a new, simple Oral Rehydration Theraphy.
