Coimbatore Feb. 16 Suguna Poultry group has planned to secure carbon credit for its wind energy project.

The Coimbatore-based company is also planning to include its 2.5-MW biomass-based co-generation project being installed at its Karnataka-based feed mill under the carbon credit programme.

Annual yield

Suguna group has identified 12 of its 20 wind mills with a combined energy generation capacity of 7.35 MW under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project which will yield annually 15,750 CER (Certified Emission Reduction) units once its project is approved and registered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change authorities.

According to Mr S. Kannan, Assistant General Manager (Operations), Suguna Poultry, the company has engaged Ernst and Young as the consultants for the CER project identification and document. The company is also expected to shortly finalise an international validation agency for the project.
