Kottayam Feb. 16 Physical rubber prices witnessed a mixed trend on Friday. The market opened weak and moved down further in the morning session on extremely bearish sentiments. But prices improved partially in tune with domestic futures towards the end of the day.

Sheet rubber slipped to Rs 95.50 a kg on buyer resistance amidst selling from traders early in the session. Later, the grade managed to gain on covering purchases at lower levels and finished at Rs 96.50 at Kottayam against Rs 96 a kg on Thursday.

Futures better

The rubber futures turned better possibly on speculative buying and short covering anticipating further gains in the succeeding sessions. The sentiments were highly inspired by the recovery after an initial decline in TOCOM, though the remaining global markets were bearish.

The March contract improved to Rs 100.80 (97.42), April to Rs 105.75 (102.60) and May to Rs 110.19 (107.31), while the June contract concluded its debut day at Rs 113.70 a kg for RSS 4. Spot rubber prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 96.50 (96); RSS-5: 94.50 (94); ungraded: 91.50 (92); ISNR 20: 92.50 (92.50) and latex 60 per cent: 65.25 (65.25).
