Mangalore Feb. 19 The Dakshina Kannada District Tiny Industries Association (DKDTIA) has urged the Union Government to exempt levies on fire-fighting equipment and accessories.

In a letter to the Prime Minister - the copies of which were released to the press here on Monday - Ms Latha R. Kini, President of the Association, said these items deserve prime importance in terms of saving lives and assets in infrastructure. Such a move would go a long way by encouraging people to invest in safety infrastructure.

As the country is poised for tremendous growth, it is necessary to initiate steps to safeguard people's lives and the national assets.

The letter suggested that fire-fighting equipment, accessories and safety equipment be exempted from Central Excise, Customs and Sales Tax.
