Hyderabad Feb. 19 The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has announced that it would carry out helicopter-borne geophysical survey in remote and inaccessible areas.

The effort is expected to throw interesting insights into the hidden mineral resources in these areas.

Announcing this here on Monday at a seminar on `Notable research in earth sciences for socio-economic advances in India,' Mr P.M. Tejale, Director-General of GSI, said the survey was expected to begin next year.

The institute had already initiated a project for preparing a geo-chemical map for the country during the Tenth Plan. Stating that LAN (Local Area Network) of GSI was completed, he said implementation of WAN (Wide Area Network) was in progress. The institute was also in the process of developing a portal that would offer earth science data to the user agencies.

Gravity Map

Earlier, he released `Gravity map' series of the country. The map was updated after nearly 30 years, including data obtained from a number of institutions. The maps were expected to be very useful in space research and exploration activity. These maps conformed to international gravity standards.
