Kottayam Feb. 19 A meeting of exporters convened by Rubber Board decided to enhance the export of natural rubber from India making use of the present price advantage prevailing in the international market.

Presiding over the meeting, Mr Sajan Peter, Chairman of the Board, said the international price was ruling higher than the domestic price by about Rs 10 and Indian growers had every right to get the equivalent of the international price for their produce.

Several exporters suggested that the rising trends in the international markets after a relative lull for a few months were advantageous for exports.

Many exporters, including Periyar Latex , a company sponsored by the Rubber Board have already contracted for exports in the coming weeks. The Rubber Board is committed to ensure that the Indian farmer gets the benefits of globalisation, said Mr Peter.

He said top priority would be given in the 11th Five Year Plan for the construction of "Humidity Controlled warehouses" to enable the growers to stock their produce for long periods so that any effort to bring down the price by domestic consumers would be offset.

Nearly 40 exporters including representatives of latex producers Association, All-India Natural Rubber Exporters Association, Rubber Mark and Plantation Corporation of Kerala attended the meeting.
