To set up more IIMs, IITs every year

New Delhi Feb. 19 The Industry chamber Assocham has asked the Government to deregulate higher and technical education, which results in foreign exchange outflow of Rs 50,000 crore per annum as nearly 1,20,000 students leave India every year for study. The chamber has also suggested that the lost capital be used to set up more IIMs and IITs every year.

In a paper brought out by the chamber, it has been stated that the Government also collects Rs 7,000 crore of revenues through imposition of cess, which is utilised for providing subsidies and yields no results in terms of creating additional institutions.

Foreign Students

The total amount spent on education is about Rs 91,000 crore per year in which 15 per cent of it goes to the Centre and remaining 85 per cent to the States and meets only 13 per cent of our higher education demand.
