Bangalore Feb. 19 Suprajit Engineering Ltd, which has won a contract for the supply of automotive cables for the proposed low-cost car of Tata group, plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Singur, West Bengal. The unit, which will have an initial investment of about Rs 8 crore, will come up in the auto-complex where a large number of vendors for the Rs one-lakh car are also expected to set up their units.

The company has been awarded a five-year supply order for cables by the Tata Motors. The value of the order is worth Rs 40 crore.

Mr K. Ajith Kumar Rai, Managing Director of Suprajit Engineering told Business Line that initially the supply would be sourced from Suprajit's existing units. A new facility would come up once the problems surrounding the Singur land allotment were resolved.

The land allotment by the West Bengal Government met with controversy following Trinamul Congress opposing the acquisition of agri land.
