Chetra Industrial Machineries Company, an exclusive trading arm and service provider for some large Russian machinery manufacturers, plans to establish manufacturing facilities in India in joint ventures.

The Vice Managing Director of Chetra, Mr Evgeny Trofimov, told Business Line "the purpose of such joint ventures is to further reduce the cost of Russian machinery."

He claimed that Chetra products were already popular in the Indian market, thanks to a favourable price-quality ratio. The new package of Russian machineries would be more favourable once costs are reduced. Chetra is the first Russian company to participate in Bauma trade fair.

Chetra is the exclusive seller of machines manufactured by Promtractor, track machines and equipment for oil pipeline repairs produced by Kurganmashzavod (Russia), and multifunctional logging equipment made by Silvatec (Denmark).

Mr Trofimov said his company was looking for partners for joint venture projects in India because "we are finding it difficult to send complete machines by containers."

He said Chetra had plans to supply machines in completely knocked down condition from Russia to Indian joint venture companies. It would then be assembled here. In the next phase, the company has plans to outsource some machines and components from Indian companies.

He said the company would soon be able to select an Indian partner for joint venture project. In fact, "we have already visited some telecom companies in India, and found that a few of them have capability to produce Russian machines.
