Chennai Feb. 20 The academic curriculum is updated once in a year or once in two years by universities, whereas technology gets updated every day. In the last eight years, technology has grown manifold, Mr M. Gnanasekar, CEO of G-Mac Technologies, told students of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College.

He was addressing a workshop on `Network Programming Concept' organised by the Department of Information Technology, Sri Sai Ram Engineering College under the aegis of Business Line Club.

Explaining to students the impact technology made on society, he said in the past it took years for companies to take a business decision, whereas today it is a matter of days.

Similarly, with the help of networks, medical facilities are made available at every nook and corner of the world. Educational field also has seen remarkable changes. "Can any of us do without a mobile phone or e-mails?" he quipped.

Comparing networking to the postal department, he said, "Have you ever thought that your mail/post needs the help of more than 2,000 people to reach its destination? Did you know that the police department has a role in it through enforcing law and order for its safety and the traffic department for the smooth flow of traffic?" Networking is similar to that.

In the world of computing, the network helps one reach his/her destination, he said.

Mr S. Sivaraman and Mr R. Srikanth, students of the IT Department, who designed a keyboard for visually challenged, were honoured on the occasion by Mr Gnanasekar.

Earlier in his inaugural address, Dr S. Seetharaman, Principal, said the speaker who is young, an entrepreneur and an achiever, is an ideal example for the students.

Others present on the occasion were Mr R. Manoj, Technical Head, G-Mac and Mr N. Prof. Nityanandam, Department of IT, Sai Ram Engineering College.
