Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the release of SBI-Manipal University Combo Card at Manipal on Tuesday, Mr O.P. Bhatt, Chairman of State Bank of India, said that around 3,000 to 5,000 frontline staff would be recruited in the next fiscal. "The process of recruitment has already begun, and it may take a few months time," he said. In its effort to reach out to in unbanked areas, SBI is planning to set up 1 lakh kiosks in rural areas. SBI also intends to introduce biometric cards in rural areas. The bank has been helping the education sector both on supply and demand sides. On the supply side, the bank has given loans in excess of Rs 1,000 crore to 2,000 educational institutions across the country either to set up or to better equip their infrastructure. On the demand side, it has given loans to around 2 lakh students, and it is one of the largest student loan providers in the country, he said.
Combo card
State Bank of India and Manipal University have launched a combo card for the benefit of the students at its Manipal campus. They don't have to carry separate cards for their various needs. The all-in-one card is to be issued free of cost to students.
