Spot rubber down on global trend

Kottayam Feb. 20 A crash in TOCOM rubber futures kept spot rubber under its shadow on Tuesday. Major grades lost by 50 paise but RSS 4 continued to rule flat at Rs 96.50 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi as on Monday.

The market activities were feeble lacking the real energy as most of the players from the buyer and seller sides seemed to be waiting for a comfortable level to emerge according to their preferences. The trend was mixed.

Futures decline

The rubber futures moved down further amidst sharp losses in the Japanese trendsetter. The March contract for RSS 4 was quoted at Rs 98.11 (98.98), April at Rs 103.75 (104.24), May at Rs 108.25 (108.38) and June at Rs 111.35 (111.52) a kg on NMCE. The volumes were 2,613 (2,356) lots and open interest 14,690 (14,550) lots.

The March delivery contract for RSS 4 weakened to Rs 98.76 a kg from Rs 99.90 a kg on MCX.

The March futures for RSS 3 fell by 10 Yen (Rs 3.68) to 267.6 Yen (Rs 98.52) a kg from 277.6 Yen at TOCOM. RSS 3 (spot) moved down to Rs 104.62 from Rs 106.37a kg at Bangkok.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 96.50 (96.50); RSS-5: 94 (94.50); ungraded: 92 (92.50); ISNR 20: 92 (92.50) and latex 60 per cent: 65.25 (65.25).
