New Delhi Feb. 20 Large retail chains promoted by corporate houses can look forward to steady flow of handicraft items for their outlets in the coming years, with the Government giving its nod for setting up of "sourcing hubs" across the country.

These hubs would be set up on a public-private partnership (PPP) model and the first six would take off next fiscal, Mr Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director of the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

In the Eleventh Plan period, Rs 525 crore would be set aside towards the establishment of 25 such hubs across the country.

The objective of the `sourcing hubs' is to ensure that there is no disruption in the supply chain for handicraft items.

Mr Kumar also announced that the 23rd edition of the Indian Handicraft and Gifts Fair would be held in the National Capital Region from February 22-26.

About 7,000 overseas buyers are expected to attend this fair, which is likely to generate business worth about Rs 1,500 crore.
