Hyderabad Feb. 20 Aircel Ltd, part of Malaysian company Maxis Communications Berhad, is awaiting spectrum allocation for 14 more circles for a phased rollout.

"Once the spectrum is allocated, we expect to offer mobile services across 14 more circles thereby holding a pan-India presence," Mr Jagdish Kini, Group Chief Executive Officer, Aircel, said here on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Kini said the telecom company has grown from 2 million subscribers in two circles to 5 million subscribers across nine circles. It launched operations in Bihar and Himachal Pradesh a month ago and other circles would follow suit.

The Chennai-based company through its arm Aircel Business Solutions, which rolled out WiMax services in 10 cities including metros and Bangalore and Pune, announced the availability of its services in Hyderabad.

WiMax or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access bypasses the need for last mile wire, thereby helping in faster deployment and also connectivity.

Target segment

The company is initially targeting the enterprise segment particularly in the small and medium business segment. Apart from this, Aircel believes that the advantages that WiMax technology brings, helps it offer ideal solution to business process outsourcing (BPO) companies.

The Head of Aircel Business Solutions, Mr Ram Shinde, said the company plans to expand its WiMax services footprint to 40 cities in the firstphase and later ramp this up to 125 cities.
