Vijayawada Feb. 21 Recently, the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) signed an agreement in Hyderabad to expand the Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Tirupati airports in the State, a move welcomed by all sections of people.

However, there is an unexpected problem with the Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada. The State Government is developing an IT park in the vicinity of the airport and the expanded runway will enable the landing of the bigger aircraft in the airport. Therefore, there is no room for high-rise buildings in the IT park.

The AAI authorities, it appears, brought this fact to the notice of the State Government and expressed its reservations about the construction of high-rise buildings in the proposed IT park. Initially, the IT Department was planning to get high-rise buildings constructed in the park and build up the requisite infrastructure.

However, with the signing of the agreement on airport expansion, IT Department officials are planning to limit the height of buildings, to may be not more than four floors, to avoid any problem with the AAI, as otherwise the location of the park may have to be changed. According to Ms K. Ratna Prabha, Principal Secretary (IT), there will not be any change in the location of the park and the L&T had already started work on it.

However, in consultation with the AAI and taking into account the technical considerations, the height of the buildings in the park may be decided.

There has been a lot of activity on the real estate front after the announcement of the IT park proposal and any change in location may also hit the sector. A number of real estate operators may be hit in that eventuality.
