Visakhapatnam, Feb. 21

In the first election to the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC), the results of which were announced here on Wednesday, the Telugu Desam Party got the maximum number of seats. However, it is not clear whether it will be able to get its candidate elected as Mayor. Of the 72 wards in the GVMC, the TDP could get 33, the Congress 26, the CPI one, the CPI(M) two, and independents 10 (including five Congress rebels). The independents hold the key to the Mayor's post. The mayoral election is to be held on February 26. The BJP could not win a single ward.
