Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has entered into a strategic tie-up with Indian Oil Corporation to set up retail chains of Supplyco branded products at select Indian Oil petrol stations in the State.
Indian Oil will provide five of its outlets to Supplyco on a pilot basis initially, which would be enhanced later. The outlets are in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kottayam and Kollam.
Speaking to media persons after signing an MoU in this regard, Mr G.C. Daga, Director (Marketing), Indian Oil, said the company has already tied up with Pantaloon Group to open retail outlet chains in the fuel stations in view of the change in the retail marketing segment. It had also joined with real estate developer Ansal Housing in its township to offer value added service to customers.
The company is also entering into non-fuel business foray in a big way through the petrol outlets and it is also hiring a consultant to device strategy to increase the non-fuel revenue, he added.
Mr Daga said the company has a market share of 47 per cent in the State with 700 petrol stations and 200 LPG outlets.
There are about 14 branded petrol stations, which would be increased to 20 by the year end and 50 by 2008-09.
Auto LPG station will also be set up in the branded petrol stations. "We are in the process of converting pumps into branded pumps for the benefit of customers by providing adequate training to staff," he added.
The company is also exploring the possibility of setting up an LPG import facility at Kochi Port to cater to the south Indian markets. There is a need for establishing such facility in south India considering the increase in LPG sales in the region, he said.
