DHL to revamp biz in India, Asia Pacific

Mumbai Feb. 22 DHL Express is to restructure its business in India and the Asia Pacific region with the creation of a new region within the Asia Pacific business area to be called the South Asia area. This will cover India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, the Maldives, Bangladesh and Bhutan.

The initiative will facilitate better geographic focus on trade lanes and enhance business opportunities within the region; moreover, South Asia is one of the largest growing areas in the Asia Pacific belt.

The area office will be headquartered in Mumbai. Mr Malcolm Monteiro has been appointed Senior Vice-President and Area Director of the region and will be responsible for charting the growth and development of the Express business in South Asia.

He will also oversee the operations of Blue Dart Express, in which DHL has a majority stake (81 per cent) and Blue Dart Aviation. Mr Anil Khanna has been appointed the new Managing Director of Blue Dart Express, which has posted a profit of tax of Rs 50.23 crore for the year ended December 31, 2006.

DHL has invested over $1.4 billion in Asia Pacific business, of which $300 million is designated for India. Some of it has been spent while $10 - 15 million will be spent in 2007. The money will go to bring superior solutions to industries such as telecom, aviation, financial services and auto components.
