Bangalore, Feb. 22
As part of its initiative to create awareness of coffee culture, illycafe announced the launch of its University of Coffee in Bangalore on Thursday. The opening of the Indian campus - Universita del Caffe is part of the company's global expansion strategy and enhances its role in spreading the coffee culture through comprehensive training, said Mr Roberto Morelli, university Director at illycafe.
illycafe aims to train the coffee growers, professionals such as the baristas, the connoisseurs and others who merely want to learn more about the issues relating to coffee.
The Universita del Caffe has planned six courses to be held in the Bangalore campus and another six on farms located in several coffee growing regions, involving growers directly on site. The objective is to train 400 Indian growers by end of 2007, he said.
Bangalore will be the seventh campus for the Trieste-based illycafe, which has presence in Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Seoul, Amsterdam and Cairo.
